Project Day

This Friday's project day was dedicated to working on the long running project of setting up and English Self Access Library (SAL). GVI partnered with the Ao Luk Non-Formal Education Centre are planning to open up an English Self-Access Library to provide opportunities for the local community to practice and extend their English skills outside of a classroom environment. The library will utilize computers, books, and provide opportunities for conversation with native speakers and special workshops for focusing on English for special purposes.

Expedition Members (EMs) on GVI's Teaching and Community Development Expeditions contribute to SAL by helping to create multimedia English lessons to be used on computers complete with listening dialogues and activities, reading and writing exercises, and activities to practice their English skills.

The plan is to get SAL up and running for the public at the Ao Luk Non-Formal Education Centre in 2009. It will provide volunteers opportunities provide added language assistance to the local community and best of all will be just another way to get involved and give back to the Ao Luk community!
