Going for Gold!

Quotes from the field

"To make the most of the expedition you need to: 1. Be prepared to work hard. 2. Enjoy and immerse yourself into the community 3. Be patient, resilient, enthusiastic and flexible 4. Explore any opportunities and initiate projects! 5. Be able to have fun!" -Deepak Jas, Expedition Member August-September 2007 "One of the best things about this expedition in Thailand is that you do things and see things that you would never see if you were traveling with friends or alone. You are completely immersed in the culture and you experience the real Thailand, as opposed to experiencing the tourist side of things."- Hannah McMurray, Expedition Member October-December 2007 "It was a wonderful way to get to know Thailand, its people and culture. Working with Thai students was a pleasure and very rewarding. This experience beats an organized tour!"-Iris Anorga, Expedition Member, February-March 2008 "The rewards of teaching are also really exciting-you actually feel like you have made a difference."-Thomas Martin, Expedition Member January-March 2008 "Never again will you have the chance to teach such motivated students with an overwhelming desire to learn whilst absorbing an entirely different culture at the same time."- Katie Lucas, Expedition Member April-May 2008 "I love what GVI and the staff is doing in this community" - Kristy McCullock, GVI Intern, July-December 2009 "I have gained a great deal during my time with GVI Thailand" - Rebecca Winter, GVI Intern, July-December 2009 "The classes offered at Ao Luk's Non-Formal Education Center are well attended and GVI is a respected organization in the community." - Emily Gigot, Field Staff “Great staff. Excellent camp atmosphere and morale between staff and fellow volunteers. I enjoyed teaching children English in schools as well as doing local and further expeditions to see and experience Thailand.”- Janet Outhwaite, Short term Community Development Intern, July 2010 “Gvi has provided me with an unforgettable, life changing experience where I met some the most awesome people imaginable. Thank you for everything!”- Alexis Smith, Short term Community Development Intern, August 2010
