New Teaching Children Project!

On Saturday 3 new volunteers joined the GVI team in Ao Luk to participate in one of GVI's newest projects. Due to the demand of the schools in Ao Luk, GVI has opened a new project to cater to these demands. The volunteers came from Australia and the USA. Over the weekend they participated in informative workshops about Thai culture, teaching in Thai schools, teaching children, teaching vocabulary, classroom management and games and activities to use in the classroom. On Monday they will begin assisting and teaching at Ao Luk Primary School.

Most Thai schools already have an English curriculum, taught for the most part by native Thai teachers, often with limited English experience. By providing these teachers with native speaking English assistants the students have the opportunity to practice English with an English speaker and the Thai teachers have the opportunity to extend their own English skills. Volunteers on this project can stay for 2 weeks or more and have the opportunity of living on the GVI base and walking to the nearby primary school or staying in a rural home stay and assisting at a smaller rural school.
