Project Week: Village Tour

One of the great things about being a GVI volunteer is the opportunity to experience the local culture beyond the tourist trail. The expedition's project week is a perfect time to get out in the community and see things that the typical backpacker would miss. Perfect example: today we joined the Ao Luk Community Based Tourism Network in Ban Tham Seua for a bike tour around the village.

Our lovely guides introduced us to some of the village's natural sites such as an immense cave and geothermal pool, which bubbles at the sound of clapping hands. In addition, we visited a rubber plantation and the village's local temple, which is set within a cave - all the while, biking through palm plantations and gorgeous countryside.

We stopped off at the local homestay for a relaxing lunch and ended the day by planting mangroves at the coast.

Volunteers cycling through palm plantations!

The local temple is impressive to say the least!

What a great day for a bike ride!

Goethermal madness at hand clapping pond!
