Project Week: Queen's Birthday!

Today is the Queen's Birthday, which is also Mother's Day in Thailand. In honor of the holiday, a Rak (love) Ao Luk festival was held at the district office. There was a variety of food and handicrafts on offer in the early evening and at seven o'clock the crowd gathered around the stage for the candle lighting ceremony. Fireworks signaled the end of the ceremony and the start of the evening's entertainment which included a live band and a traditional Thai drum circle.

GVI joined in the fun by hosting a children's art contest and offering face painting and English language puzzles. Volunteers took turns manning the GVI booth and advertising for our new term of classes, which starts on Monday. The judges of the art contest will deliberate over the weekend and the winners will be notified at their respective schools next week.
