Art Contest at Pratheep Tham Wittaya School

Mangrove Action Project , an organization that works to educate communities and conserve mangrove areas around the globe, creates an annual calendar featuring children's artwork from the communities they work in. MAP in Thailand requested GVI's assistance with gathering artwork for the contest to pick the artwork to be featured in the 2011 calendar. As volunteers have been spending the week on renovation projects at a school in Laem Sak, we thought that it would make the perfect venue for the project.

21 students created a work of art reflecting their feelings on the importance of mangroves in their community. On Thursday, GVI staff and teachers voted on their 3 favorites. The 3 winners received a GVI T-shirt and their artwork will be sent to the USA where it will join a large contest to choose the artwork which will be featured in the upcoming calendar.

The winners are:

In third place: "Save World Mangrove" by Sukhonthip Ruming

In second place: "Mangrove and Me" by Naiyana Kaekerd

And the first place winner was "Mangrove Grow, Love Grow" by Sarawut Chamnansilp

We thank all the students of Pratheep Tham Wittaya school for participating. It was tough to choose the winners as they were all great works of art. We wish the winners the best of luck and really hope that we get to see them in the upcoming calendar! Fingers crossed everyone!

The 3 winners were awarded with GVI T-shirts
