A visit from from Su from Ko Klang!

On Wednesday we had a surprise visit from Su from Ko Klang island. Su runs and home stay and teaching project on Ko Klang island, a traditional Muslim island, just off of the Chao Fa Pier in the town of Krabi. GVI Thailand is partnered with Su providing her with volunteers through GVI's Volunteer with Children in Thailand project as well as the 6-12 month Teaching Internship Program. GVI volunteers can take the opportunity to live in a Thai home stay and teach English at a primary school amongst the setting of a traditional fishing community.
Su had a tour of the GVI base and also visited the community center where GVI teaches free evening English classes for the Ao Luk community. Volunteers were hard at work during her visit, planning lessons at the GVI base, participating in Thai lessons taught by Thai staff member, Jack as well as busily renovating and painting the community center.
Su also invited GVI volunteers to come out to Ko Klang on Saturday to visit the island and participate in a Children's Day she was organizing for the communities children (stay tuned for more news and pictures of the Children's Day event on Ko Klang). GVI Thailand made a donation to pay for lunch for the 200 children participating in the Saturday event.
It was great to see Su and we hope she comes back to visit soon!
