Teaching Children in Ao Nam

On Friday, the 21st of January, we participated in the first village project of 2011. Nine of this January's GVI Thailand TEFL volunteers left base around 9 o'clock in the morning to try out their newly gained teaching knowledge with a bunch of school children in an Ao Luk area school called, Ao Nam.

In teams of two and one team of three, volunteers taught basic vocabulary such as fruits, animals, numbers, colors and shapes to the school children aged, seven to twelve. There were about 40-50 children in each class thus there were four circulations. So in the end, every volunteer had their lesson down to a fine art.

And it was great fun. The children knew how to perfectly scream and whisper all of the words - regardless of the manner in which the teachers drilled the various vocabulary words. Apple also taught a very rowdy and exciting class on recycling and the environment.

After, a sweaty and slightly chaotic football match with “teams” consisting of anything from 20 to 30 players took place. A very happy morning in Ao Nam ended with lots of goodbye "high fives", hugs and kisses and the volunteers started in their weekends.
