James' Volunteer Story

James, one of our 6 month interns wrote this story about his time at GVI thus far:

“I’ve been an intern here in Ao Luk, Thailand for 8 weeks and I’m having an awesome time. The first 4 weeks were TEFL training and we were thrown into the class on the second day- daunting but fun.

At the end of the 4 weeks we received our certificates at the base party which happens at the end of each term. Everyone had a great time and it was cool to hang out with the students.

The following week was a project week where we were sent to local village schools. The children treated us like rock stars and had so much energy. It’s hard work but super fun.

At the weekends, the volunteers are free to do what we want. While Ao Luk is a great town, buses and taxis are always available to all the popular nearby beaches and resorts.

Basically apart from sunburn, occasional dehydration and ants in my bed everything has been wonderful!”
