Village Project - Big Cleaning day in Kuwan O Village

Friday's Village Project took place in the small village of Kuwan O located in the Ao Luk Noi sub district of Ao Luk. The village is located on the water and is know for access to Ko Karot, a mountain island complete with hidden emerald grottoes, caves, ancient cave paintings and deserted beaches. This community has developed long-tailed boat rides and kayaking trips through the Ao Luk Community Based Tourism Network.

On Friday, the GVI team along with teachers from the Ao Luk Non-Formal Education Center, the head of Kuwan O, local villagers and about 40 local children came out to help clean up the village. Together they picked up trash through the provincial wide "Big Cleaning Day" Initiative through the Ao Luk community development office.

After picking up trash, the GVI team led the students in some fun English songs including "Head, shoulders, knees and toes" and the "Hokey Pokey". The day finished at the local batik workshop where local women die their own fabric with handmade designs. They had some amazing designs fashioned into shirts, trousers, hanker chiefs and bolts of fabric. Everyone enjoyed browsing and buying before sitting down for a picnic lunch.
