Village Project at Ao Naam

Due to Ao Luk schools being closed for meetings and exams, this week's village project was a bit different. The GVI team still visited the village of Ao Naam in the Laem Sak sub district of Ao Luk but instead of leading activities with the local school children, they took off for one of Ao Luk's only beach fronts!

Ao Naam is one of our favorite spots in Ao Luk. The property, owned by Somyot, a student and friend of GVI, is piece of paradise utilized by the local fishing communities. With an amazing view of the sea and it's karst limestone formations, the land itself consists of its own stunning mountain views, caves, and mangrove ecosystems.

Everyone helped to do a beach clean up to pick up the litter that gets brought in by the daily tides. The rest of the morning was spent enjoying fresh coconut juice, fruits and orange cake courtesy of Somyot, exploring the natural surroundings, lounging on the beach, a picnic, and some even went for a swim!

Although the opportunity to work with students was greatly missed, the alternative provided a nice farewell for those that will soon be leaving Ao Luk.
