Visa Run Weekend to Khao Lak, Ranong and Burma
On the 29th-31st of August, GVI Expedition Members (EMs) took a weekend trip to Khao Lak in Phang Nga, Ranong, and crossed over to Burma for a visa run.
Saturday evening they returned to Khao Lak and until Sunday afternoon had some downtime to explore the small beach resort town. Everyone took advantage of the time to catch up on shopping, sleeping, getting massage, stocking up on western foods, and getting in some beach time before returning to Ao Luk.
First stop was Khao Lak where EMs paid a visit to the R35 School. This boarding school educates and houses over 1,000 of the region's poorest students, 300 of which lost one or both of their parents to the 2004 Tsunami. EMs led 60 of the students in English activities for the morning. Everyone had a blast!
Saturday was the visa run to Burma where EMs renewed their 30 day visa stamp on arrival. They had the opportunity to take a boat over to the Burmese side where they spent an hour wandering the markets and visiting a couple of tourist spots.
