R35 School in Khao Lak

Each 5 weeks the GVI team visits the town of Khao Lak on their way to and from doing a visa run in Ranong over to Burma. One of their activities in Khao Lak is to visit the R35 School which goes by the longer name of Rajaprajanugroh and is the 35th school sponsored by the King of Thailand geared towards education the neediest students in the region. Most students live at the school and several were orphaned by the tsunami or are escaping the civil unrest of the deep south. Friday afternoon is an activities time at the school where students have the opportunity to participate in fun activities and clubs. GVI teachers led activities with 60 of the school children who were directly affected by the tsunami by losing one or both of their parents. The teachers split up into four groups and led simple and active English games and activities which 4 groups of children rotated through. The students loved the opportunity to laugh and play with the expedition members and gained some confidence and learned some English in the process! The EMs had a great time getting to know the kids as well!
