Ao Naam School

On Friday we visited Ao Naam School in the Laem Sak sub district of Ao Luk. The school is a small primary school of 60 students aged 6-13 years of age. Unlike many primary schools in the area the school doesn't have any teachers qualified or confident enough to teach English. The students and the teachers take any opportunity available to get the students practicing English and were excited for the opportunity to have the GVI team of teachers visit the school for the morning.

Splitting up into 6 groups, teachers rotated throughout the groups in the school to lead a range of activities in English. Focus was placed on teaching vocabulary as students have minimal English skills. Colors, numbers, fruits, animals, body parts and classroom objects were the topics covered and the GVI teachers utilized real objects and pictures along with interactive games and activities to introduce the language and help the students to practice it.

After a couple of hours it was time for lunch. The GVI team moved on to Ao Luk's beach, an a amazing piece of land on the coast complete with caves, karst, mangroves and amazing views for viewing the sea and islands beyond.
