Kayaking Trip

Every 5 weeks Expedition Members have the opportunity to visit one of Ao Luk's most famous natural attractions; Kayaking at Bor Thor. Bor Thor is a pier close the the GVI Thailand base with access to the sea through a series of mangrove channels. This spot is know for 2 particularly remarkable caves, know as Tham Lawt and Tham Pii Hua To. Tham Lawt means literally "Tube Cave" and is a cave over the water which allows boats and kayaks to pass through the cave. One of the limestone formations in the cave looks like a mermaid perched over the water. The second cave, Tham Pii Hua To, meaning "the big-headed ghost cave. This cave is an expanse of hidden crevices great for hiding and rocks perfect for scrambling. The highlight of this cave are the 3,000-5,000 year old cave paintings that the Krabi regions is reknowned for. Some of the pictures are of a women in a skirt, hands, and a variety of people and animals.

EMs had the opportunity to kayak with a local guide and explore the mangrove channels, amazing caves, and hidden lagoons of Bor Thor. The trip finished with a delicious lunch at the piers popular seafood restaurant.
