Catching up with Sophie in Chiang Mai

Sophie is one of GVI Thailand's teaching interns. She completed her 10 week TEFL and training period in June when she was placed at GVI's elephant conservation project in Chiang Mai to help support the new project as a teacher and as a staff member.

Over the past 5 months Sophie has been an integral part of the community and the GVI staff team. Based in a small Karen hill tribe village 5 hours outside of the city of Chiang Mai, besides helping GVI volunteers and assisting with the elephant project Sophie is also teaching English classes for Karen students at the local primary school and for the local community. The English classes have provided a great opportunity for the community to gain some added knowledge and skills and has provided more interaction with the volunteers assisting with the elephant forest reintroduction project.

We, in GVI Ao Luk, are really proud of Sophie and her accomplishments and happy that our teaching interns are spreading out and helping out in a number of communities!
