Ao Luk Village Project #13

The 13th village of the Ao Luk Village Project was Ban Khiriwong, located in the Ao Luk Noi Sub district of Ao Luk. Ban Khiriwong is a small village with a population of just over 400. The community is 85% Muslim and 15% Buddhist. Meeting at the village's mosque the GVI team helped the head of the village and about 20 villagers make improvements around the property of the mosque. They picked up trash, cut grass and weeds, and removed weeds. Upon completion everyone joined together for lunch. There was a combination of tuna fish sandwiches, egg salad, and fresh salad brought by GVI and rice, chicken with basil, and stir-fried vegetables cooked by the community.

After lunch everyone stopped at nearby Tham Klang Cave. This cave was discovered about 13 years ago by an Ao Luk local who still acts as a guide to this cave and others into the area. The cave consists of numerous rooms and has some amazing formations, stalactites, stalagmites, and crystal growth within the caves. The GVI team only had an hour to spare to explore the cave but those with 12-15 hours to spare can go with the guide through cave channels that go underground and come out at Laem Sak, a village located on the coast.
