Baan Nai Yuan Kaek Village

On Friday the GVI team visited the village of Baan Nai Yuan Kaek located in the Ao Luk Nuea sub district of Ao Luk. This small village is 40% Muslim and 60% Buddhist. One of the village highlights is the Sat Yuan Tong Cave. The cave opens out onto a lake. By climbing up and into the cave one can sit in the cave with a beautiful view created by the light coming through the opening of the cave. It makes a great little swimming hole for the adventuresome.

Arriving at the cave, Expedition Members (EMs)met up with the head of the village and proceeded to pick up trash around the cave. Sat Nai Yuan Cave is part of the Than Bok Khorani National Park system but because of it's distance from the park is neglected by park officials. The local community has taken some ownership for the cave and provide trash receptacles which often overflow as the municipality's trash pick up doesn't reach into the village. For a variety of reasons the amazing spot is often found with trash scattered around. This particular trip wasn't so bad and the area was cleaned up quickly with the help of 15 people.

After cleaning everyone took some time to explore the cave. The trip finished with a picnic lunch outside the cave. Yummy!
