Village Project: Opening Ceremony of Non-Formal Education Center in Laem Sak

Ao Luk's Non-Formal Education Center is in the process of opening a number of satellite locations in the surrounding sub-districts. This Friday an opening ceremony was held for the new location in Laem Sak.

The expansion of the Non-Formal Education Center is a great opportunity for the community as now people from villages further afield will be able to take advantage of the NFE's educational offerings.

Students and teachers watching a dance routine

As GVI is a partner of the NFE, our TEFL volunteers were invited to spend the afternoon taking part in the festivities that highlighted all of the different subjects and activities in which the NFE is involved. Students from surrounding primary schools as well as NFE students had the opportunity watch presentations put on by their fellow students. Some of which included martial arts, foot massage, local crafts, dance and of course the GVI booth where students could come and practice their English. Activities focused on food and included a taste test, drinks, the ever-popular fruit feel box, a vegetable guessing game and face painting.

Students lined up for their chance to guess veggies and discover hidden fruits...

...and the bravest students tried the blind taste test!

...And as always face painting stole the show!

In addition, first graders from the local muslim school - at which one of our long-term interns has been teaching - put on a presentation to showcase what they've learned so far this school year. It included a Q&A in English, which was beautifully MC-ed by volunteer, Paul.

The lively afternoon was wrapped up by speeches from local community leaders and the director of the NFE as well as the ceremonial ribbon cutting.

Good Luck, NFE Laem Sak!
